Summer 2006 Fan Fic Awards

For those of you who have been around for the nearly 4 years this site has been opened, you know that it's an ever changing place. We are now going to try a new method for awarding fan fiction awards. Here, we will allow readers and writers to nominate and vote for writers and stories for each of our awards categories.

STORIES POSTED BETWEEN July 1 - September 30 ARE ELIGIBLE.

Repeat Winners: Except as stated below, any author and/or story may win more than one award. This may be multiple FFAs within a single awards period, or awards within successive awards periods.

Ongoing, Re-Posted and Removed Stories:
1. A story that has been previously recognized may win subsequent story awards provided that the author has posted between July 1 - Sept. 30.

2. Posts that were previously posted during an eligibility period, then taken down and re-posted by an author will not be considered for any awards in the subsequent eligibility period in which they are re-posted.

3. A story must be posted in the Fan Fiction Archive at the time the Fan Fiction Awards are announced in order to be eligible for an Award.


The nominations will be open for 2 weeks. We are aware we're very late with the last round of fan fic awards, but the system will then be in place to make the process far more speedy next time around.

After the nomination, there will be approximately 1 week of voting using the polling system here on this board.

We understand that the results will yield a "people's choice awards" scenario. Given how very difficult it is to implement a fair, unbiased "critic's choice awards", at this time we will rely solely upon what the fan fic readers (many of whom are also authors) select as the winner in each category.

We will, however, employee an over rule should we feel the story is very weak, has received bogus votes, or was nominated in the wrong category.

Nominations will be opened tonight, Sunday, November 26. Nominations will close Sunday, December 10, at 9 pm eastern. VOTING will be held Monday, December 11 - Monday December 18. Winners will be announced Tuesday, December 19.

This message will also be posted on the fan fic pages and a notice will be sent to the fan fiction writers so that they can notify their readers as well.

Nominations are closed, and the ballot is being prepared!

A big thank you to everyone who participated. We'll be perfecting this new system even further in upcoming quarters, but this proved to be a really exciting method that got the readers very involved.

Nominations included and excluded:
Some stories had very few chapters in the designated time period: July 1 – September 30. Certainly, quality is as--or more--important than quantity. We leave it to you, the readers, to decide if these stories should earn your votes.

NOT INCLUDED: stories nominated outside the time period; if an author was given with no story or "all" or "everything"; if a story was given with no author; wrong author nominated with a story that wasn't written by them; if the story was not in the archive when we compiled this list from the postings. In one case, there was an author whose screen name is not permitted based on site rules as it contained a profanity. They were disqualified.

As you see in this forum, this is a huge list of nominees. While this will split the field--in some cases, authors will even be splitting their own votes with multiple nominations--hopefully this will encourage the readers to check out all these stories--some of which may be new to some of you. Ultimately, when you read a writer's story, you are supporting and encouraging that writer. Leave comments and feedback for those who solicit it! If you want more fan fiction, support our writers!

The ballot will be up on Monday. I’ll post the link here and in FF announcements. Voting will be by screen names, which will be logged. One vote per name.
