| The way the character was written may have sucked, but Daniela Sea is beautifully handsome. |

I am happy to see this character's development and the fact that we know more about him ... i will admit that i didn't like it in the beggining, mainly bcs i didn't know anything about the subject, and was very missinformed, opinions and information that i took as truth; but after a little research about transgender issues and reading the biography of a man who went through it, i was able to understand Max more and have simpathy for what he's going through ... i guess it is all about tolerance ... and this character tests our tolerance regarding this issue ... so i'm glad to see more screen time for Max ... i'm rooting for him and this new chick Grace ... _________________ I know that i know not ... so sue me!

I thoroughly enjoy Max`s character, though poorly written. I can`t understand why this character was set up only to be fairly alienated from the rest of the cast. Furthermore, the alienation by the cast seems to resonate with many viewers. I was going to be really impressed if they took on this character and did them well. Instead I was sorely disappointed.
The death-in-the-family storyline seems to have redeemed Max`s appeal somewhat, but I doubt the show is going to do any more to really explore a potentially fantastic and insightful character.
Makes me think of past cultures where androgyny was celebrated for its ability to understand the perspectives of both sexes (instead of in modern times where it is perceived as unnatural and shunned). |

I have a question that has been erking me.
I know her name is Daniela..but is she a man or a woman. I'm confused.
thanks _________________ Tina: That look, I know that look, you used to look at me like that back in the day.

The actress is a woman. The character is a woman undergoing FTM transition. |

| Is she transitioning in real life too? I think I read somewhere a while ago that she was having hormone therapy, but I wasn't sure if she was just doing that for the role. It's a big thing to do just for work! |

Daniela Sea is definitely a woman. Either that or the nude scene of her in season 4 was really incredible Special Effects.
Nobody carried over the Max/Moira thread to Season 5, but I'd like to comment, based on the first 4 eps of Season 5:
The "girls" are marginalizing Max pretty much in proportion to their acceptance of Max as a male. They don't have time for Max, they hardly talk to Max, etc.
Max is now tentatively dating Tom, Jodie's very gay male interpreter. Tom is or was under the impression that Max is male; the most he was told was that Max was a transsexual -- but he hasn't been told that Max has not yet had any surgery. Tom may be in for a surprise, and so may Max when he discovers that he's not accepted as a man.
One possibility, not too pleasant, is that Max, identifying himself as a gay male, ends up dating males whom Max thinks are gay but who are hetero enough to want to have sex with Moira's unchanged equipment.
Grace, Max's gf, is a charming enigma. Apparently she's a lesbian but she wants her partner to be changed into a male -- and judging from her reference to a previous inamorata, Jake, this is standard procedure with her. She's also very attractive in her own right, but the rest of the cast seems to act as if she's invisible. |
