FALL 2006 FAN FIC AWARDS
Because we were so late announcing the summer awards, we've held off doing these awards until now, though the award period closed on Dec. 31. When this current session (Winter 2007) closes on March 31, we'll vote on that right after it closes around April 1. From there, we'll always do the awards immediately after the closing date of eligibility.
As we announced previously, we will implement a two tiered voting system:
a. Readers select five stories/authors per category.
b. Writers select the winner in each category.
The nominations will be open for 1 week: Feb 1 - 8. Nominations will be made via forums on the discussion board. THE TOP 5 NOMINATED STORIES WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FINAL VOTING. All registered members (readers) will be allowed to make nominations.
There is a forum now open for each award category. Instructions for nominations are the first post in each forum.
Approximately Feb 9, final voting will be done by FAN FIC WRITERS ONLY. They will have 1 week to vote.
Approximately Feb 17, the winners will be announced.
Award icon change: We are going be giving all winners--past, present and future--the same fan fic icon regardless of # of wins. We will have a page that catalogs the winners, starting with those with the most wins, so those with the most wins will rise to the top.
Fall 2006 Awards Rules and Regs:
STORIES POSTED BETWEEN October 1 - December 31 ARE ELIGIBLE.
Repeat Winners: Except as stated below, any author and/or story may win more than one award. This may be multiple FFAs within a single awards period, or awards within successive awards periods.
Ongoing, Re-Posted and Removed Stories:
1. A story that has been previously recognized may win subsequent story awards provided that the author has posted between October 1 - December 31.
2. Posts that were previously posted during an eligibility period, then taken down and re-posted by an author will not be considered for any awards in the subsequent eligibility period in which they are re-posted.
3. A story that is removed at any time during the nomination, voting, or announcement period will be disqualified.
FOR THE NEXT AWARDS PERIOD, which covers Jan 1 - March 31, we'll be adding 1 new awards category:
Unsung Heroes. This category is opened to any writer who has not yet won an award and posts within the appropriate quarter for that fan fic award cycle. Hopefully both the nominations and the award will help bring deserved attention to writers who are deserving of some more attention!
-------
We already have problems with people not following directions. Any nominations that do not follow the directions will be discarded (there are people making multiple nominations--not allowed--people putting author names with no story--not allowed (except for the Author Award). Bottom line: READ THE DIRECTIONS. Any posts that do not follow the directions will be discarded. Anyone who votes multiple times in any category will have ALL their nominations discarded. _________________ Help support the site!

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every person that was nominated for an award in the various Fan Fiction categories.
Most important, is that I would like to take this time to acknowledge all the writer's as a whole, regardless of whether they recieved a nomination. The fact that you put the time and effort in to share your creativity and talent with this site, and the people who visit it daily, is appreciated and highly unselfish of you. It goes without saying, that writing can often leave you vulnerable and fearful of criticism. It takes a degree of courage to post that very first chapter, and then continue to dedicate yourself to what you soon learn is a committment to your readers as a result of their expectations for you to continue your writing journey.
When I began writing, I wrote because I had this strong desire. I had this drive and felt a force like no other to express myself, my thoughts, my ideas. As a writer, so many of my stories have surrounded LIFE in general. Whether that is addiction, breast cancer, racism, bigotry, STD's, coming out, death of a partner, family discontention, sexuality issues, infidelity, etc. I feel that when I write, it is so very important for me that the story have a "message" if you will. I have NEVER ever written, with the sole intent of trying to be competative, to win awards or anything else. I have written for myself, and for the readers. I have written in a way that I can touch someone. The PM's I have received over the last two years, and the last 3 months especially are from women telling me that I touched them in a way like no other. I understood their struggles, their fears, etc. THAT is why I write, to stir something in the reader which causes them to think, reflect, wonder, find comfort, etc. I will never allow competition or the desire to win fuel my intention of writing. I am sure that there are many writer's who can relate to that.
I always said that the best recognition is from the readers who take the time to read, who take the time to comment, and the ones that touch my heart the most, and which offer the biggest award once can ever receive in my opinion, are the ones who tell me that I was their inspiration and reason they started to write to begin with. The latter, is the most precious because it is an award that will last long after the Lword. To touch a person's life in a way, which brings out something in them, and prompts them to take that first step in sharing their inner most thoughts, their creative side, is the best gift one could ever receive. I am a rich person, because I have received that on more than one occassion, being the source for what prompted someone to begin writing. If I never "win" another award ever, I will always feel fulfilled and enriched by having touched people in a way which caused movement.
I thank everyone for their nominations, and I wish all the Author's lots of luck. Let us all be mindful of this: Every person who writes for this site is a WINNER to begin with, regardless of receiving a nomination, for they have shared something special and personal with every one of us. I personally don't feel I deserve anything more than any other person who writes for the site. Those close to me will say otherwise, but I guess I think differently from them. I truly hope that no one ever gets discouraged to write because they don't have an icon (award symbol) near their name. Remember this. "I once was, where you are now......you will be, where I am now" Each one of us that have that icon near our name, started without one. Don't EVER get discouraged. Also, don't ever write with the sole intent to win something. Write from your heart, write with conviction, write to soothe your soul. Once you write for competition only, you lose the very essence of what writing is all about.
Thanks again to everyone for the nominations, I am happy to have provided some material that you found enjoyable. Good luck to the Author's who have reached this stage, but never forget where you came from or started. And lastly, to each and every person that posts stories....YOU ARE ALL WINNERS and don't let anyone ever tell you different!
P.S. To Jacky and the Site Admins, your dedication to keeping this site going, your insight in making it stronger and developing it over the years is amazing. It isn't an easy job by any means, and yet even with demands of families, school, work, etc. you have all made sure you have kept this site functioning at a very high level. I thank you all for this. If it were not for you, us writer's would not be able to share any of our stories. It is so important that EVERY SINGLE PERSON who enjoys this site, support the sponsors!!! CLICK THOSE LINKS LADIES!!! LOL You can have a great manager to manage and run the site, but if the money isn't there..........we all know what happens. Don't wait until it is too late, when we have lost something dear to us to cry and moan about it later. DO YOUR PART NOW. IF YOU CAN CLICK on a story, you can CLICK on an advertiser. Clicks = ChaChing!
Love, Peace and HUGS,

Wow...
Wow Chicky, what can a woman say, after you have said it all. This is one of the most touching message I have ever read on the board, and I just had to thank you for it!
I am writing now for almost a year, and I too remember that very first post vividly, the sweating palms, the pounding heart... The strong desire to share all those idea's that fill your heart and mind. And then the comments... Those mesmerizing comments that overwhelm every time... To know that there are ppl who read, ppl who are touched by what you write and the way you write it, thats what gives me, as a writer, wings...
To me, being able to write is such a gift, this site gives me possibilities I would have never dreamt of, and I'd like to thank the ppl that make this possible from the bottom of my heart!
I would like to take this opportunity to award every reader, every commenter, PM-er or mailer on this site... Thank you all so much, for the effort, the time and the care you put in those words you bless us with. Those words that touch our heart so much more then you will maybe ever know!
Your nominations left me speechless, and I want to thank each and every one of you for the kindness I feel surrounded with... I can't find words how you all made me feel.
Last of all, I'd like to congratulate, not only all the writers who recieved a nomination, but indeed as Chicky said, every writer from this site, because its sich a wonderfull gift we all get to share, to write and touch, end recieve feedback from these wonderfull readers...
Let's all celebrate this site! Click those adds!
Love,

BRAVO! Congratulations to the Fall 2006 Fan Fic Winners. It is always a pleasure to be recognized for your creativity, dedication and contribution to the site, but it is especially nice to see the awards coming up with some fresh names as well. Always remember to remain inspired, encouraged, and motivated to continue with those fingers tapping away at the keys, for the readers expect nothing less of you. Yep...it's the big "C" word...NO NOT THAT WORD!!! LOL! Committment.
For those that were not nominated, remember........you are ALL winners for having the courage to put yourself out there and share a part of yourselves that for some, share with no one but the people on this site. Keep writing, keep contributing, and you too will find yourself making progress in your style, ability and creativity.
Once again, * C H E E R S * for continued success by the current winners, as well as the potential recognition of more fresh names in the future as well.
~Love, Peace and Hugs~

I just wanted to take a second to congratulate the award receipients of this round of fanfic awards.
It takes a lot of courage to put your work out there for all to read, and I appreciate each writer that does this day in and day out. To find the time somedays to write and post isn't always easy, but it is so worth it when people read and share with you their thoughts.
I also wanted to say to those that comment on a regular basis, on a lot of stories, you're awesome! It really does help inspire someone to continue to progress with a story and as a writer, I can tell you, it certainly brings a smile to my face to read the comments!
There are a lot of amazing stories, some in this round of receipients and some that are not in this round, so I just wanted to thank everyone for their efforts! _________________ My love is measured not in moments of time but in timeless moments |

| Hi. I have never posted in the discussion thread before. I actually haven't posted anywhere on this site other than when posting a chapter. I was having a look just now and saw Chicki's posts on this thread and then the others, so I thought I would just join in this once. I really don't know why I started writing fanfiction one day, over a year ago now. I sat down at a library computer terminal, stared at the screen and started to type...that's how Journeys began...and I guess that's how my journey with fanfiction began. I don't know where it all came from, all those chapters and stories, but for some reason they did...and what possessed me to post the stories...well....I have no idea. I just felt compelled. As Chicki said, I find that the most important or one of the most important parts of the writing is the response. It's been great to get the comments and PM's. The comments never cease to amaze me, and that people actually continue reading and commenting. It's such a treat to get the comments, and really it's an invaluable part of the process. I have a lot of difficulty keeping up with my posts, but there's not much I can do about that. It's difficult sometimes and time is short. As for the awards, everything Chicki said makes sense. Everyone has the ability to create art and the ability to tell a story, and if something moves you to tell it don't let superficial things stop you. There are people out there who will read what you have to say and you will touch them in some way, and they, in return, will make an impact on you, enlighten you, inspire you...or just put a smile on your face. This whole experience has been such a journey for me. I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to experience it, and if it wasn't for this site it wouldn't have happened. Anyway...sorry...my first post seems to be almost as wordy as one of my chapters...I'm not sure whether I've said everything I wanted to say, but congratulations to the recent winners and all the writers. Thank you to the site and to all the readers and those who take the time to comment and PM, as it really does mean so much to the authors...so thank you. And...Pancha...God bless...wherever you are. Take care everyone. Bye. |

Humbled and speechless... Thats how I feel... And my friends will be able to tell you it's quite an achievement to get me speechless
Thank you all so much, for your comments, your nominations, your votes and your kindness... I feel humbled and stunned... If home is where the heart is. Then this site is partly my home...
The beginning of a friendship is a very special story for me... I hope to post in the beginning of the upcoming week, giving certain ppl proper 'thank you's' in the authors notes...
